Wasted $250 on a so-called 'winterized' RV battery in Fairbanks
I bought a battery from a shop in Fairbanks last October that was labeled as good down to -40. First real cold snap in December hit -30 and the thing was dead by morning. Took it back and the guy basically shrugged and said 'yeah those don't really work that well.' Lost the whole $250 because their return policy is 14 days. Anyone else had garbage luck with cold weather gear up here that just doesn't live up to the claims?

So are they just betting people won't winterize until after the return window closes?

Flip that around and look at it from their side. If you slap a "buy now, install later" tag on everything, you actually push people to buy early because they feel secure about the return window. That might actually get more people to buy the winterizing gear in September and then actually use it in November, which is exactly what the store wants. It is a smart way to turn a normal return policy into a sales tool for seasonal stuff.
