Appreciation post: How 4Kids dubs felt like a different universe

Rewatching Yu-Gi-Oh on Crunchyroll after 15 years and the Japanese version is almost a different show. 4Kids cut so much content, changed character deaths, and completely rewrote dialogue. Anybody else feel like those old dubs were basically fan fiction?

Wait, he actually thought the lollipop was real? Like, he watched Sanji with a lollipop and was like "yep, this is the same show.

Man, that brings back memories. I had a buddy in high school who was obsessed with the 4Kids One Piece dub. He swore up and down that Sanji's lollipop thing was canon. One day I showed him the actual scene where Sanji lights his cigarette and his mind was blown. He got legit upset about it. Said the 4Kids version was "more fun" though. We had this whole argument about how they basically wrote their own show. He still defends the edited accents in Pokemon too.
