Had to choose between watching the 1997 Berserk anime or reading the manga first for a club discussion
I picked the anime for the soundtrack but after 3 episodes of that cliffhanger ending I wished I had just read the manga and now I'm torn on which version to recommend to others who haven't seen either.

Wait, did you know that Kentaro Miura actually wrote the manga first and the anime is technically an adaptation? I remember reading somewhere that the 1997 anime only covers like one major story arc, the Golden Age, while the manga keeps going for years after that. So if you're recommending to others, I'd say go with the manga honestly, just because it's the complete story and you don't get stuck with that awful cliffhanger. The anime soundtrack is really good though, I'll give it that, but it's like having a great meal with no dessert.
