Heard a guy at the con say 'anime is just cartoons for adults' and it got me thinking
It was at Anime NYC, and I realized we spend more time defending the medium than just enjoying it. Does anyone else get tired of that debate?

kevin_carr nailed it with that barber comparison. Anime and craft beer both got that stigma where people assume it's either for kids or pretentious snobs. But really it's just people making stuff they love with total creative freedom. Try telling someone Akira is just a cartoon, then watch their face when you explain the body horror and political collapse. Or throw on Grave of the Fireflies and see if they still say it's for kids. The medium's so wide, you got everything from slice of life romances to dark psychological thrillers. We're past the point where we need to justify it. Just enjoy the ride.
