I found out the average anime episode has only about 300 shots and now I rewatch everything differently
I was reading a production blog from a key animator on a show I like from 2019. He said a normal 24 minute episode runs around 300 cuts. Sometimes 350 if it's action heavy. I always figured it was way more. So I went back and counted cuts in the first 3 minutes of one episode on my phone. Got to 40 before I gave up. That pacing is way slower than my brain remembered. Kind of changed how I watch dialogue scenes now, everything feels way more deliberate.
Is that 300 number normal across the board or does it swing hard by studio? What shows have you noticed that feel like they have way more cuts per minute?
The "40 before I gave up" part is so real, I tried counting cuts in a fight scene once and lost track by like minute two. Action shows def feel way denser, demon slayer and jjk throw cuts at you nonstop.
