Just walked out of the new anime cafe in Springfield and the vibe was totally off
They had a huge screen playing a popular show, but the subtitles were so fast and tiny that you couldn't read them from the seating area. It felt more like a themed bar than a place for fans to actually watch and talk. Has anyone else been to a spot that just didn't get the point of an anime hangout?

Was the screen set up by someone who thinks we all have super speed reading powers? I can just picture the staff watching from the back, laughing as a room full of people squint and lean forward in their chairs. They probably think adding a few plastic swords to the wall makes up for it. It sounds like they spent all their money on the big TV and forgot you actually need to see the words on it.

Maybe the subtitles were fine and you guys just weren't sitting close enough, the whole point of a themed bar is the atmosphere not a perfect viewing experience. Brookerobinson's right that the decor was probably an afterthought, but isn't the whole appeal of these places the weird mismatched energy anyway?
