My daughter finally got me to watch a full anime series last week
I am 52 years old and never really got the appeal of anime until my 16 year old daughter sat me down to watch "Your Lie in April" last Tuesday. We finished all 22 episodes in four days and I cried at the end, which surprised me a lot. Has anyone else had a family member introduce them to a show that completely changed how you felt about the whole genre?

My buddy Dave was in the exact same boat as you about six months ago. His teenage son made him watch "Attack on Titan" and he went from hating the whole idea of anime to binging the entire thing in a week. He called me up one night all choked up about a character death and I couldn't even mess with him because I was already a fan. Now he's got a whole list of shows his son recommends and admits he was wrong about the whole genre. It's wild how one solid recommendation can flip your whole view like that.

Oh come on, not this story again. Look, I'm happy for Dave and all, but let's not pretend "Attack on Titan" is some masterpiece of storytelling. It's literally just giant naked people eating folks for three seasons with a twist that's been done better in a dozen other shows. I've tried getting into anime multiple times and it's always the same thing - either it's weird fanservice stuff or it takes itself way too seriously with characters screaming for five minutes about friendship. Give me a well-written crime drama any day over another show where a teenager saves the world by believing in himself hard enough.
