Question about that big debate scene in episode 17 of the new mecha show
I know everyone online raves about that moment where the captain yells at the admiral and the music swells, but honestly I think it was a miss. I was watching it at a buddy's apartment in Austin last Friday and we both just looked at each other like, wait, that's it? The pacing felt off to me because the captain had zero buildup to that outburst - he was just quiet the whole episode then suddenly exploded. My buddy pointed out that the anime director said in a recent interview they rewrote that scene three times, and I think it shows. The music was too loud and drowned out the dialogue, so I had to rewind twice just to catch what the admiral said back. Has anyone else felt like that scene got overhyped because of the animation quality, or was it just my bad setup?

harperwright brought up that point about the director rewriting it three times, and I've gotta ask - did it actually fix anything, or did it just make the scene feel even more pieced together? My buddy and I noticed the captain's voice cracked in a way that didn't match the lip flaps, like they recorded a different take and spliced it in. If they had to redo it that many times, maybe the core problem was the director never knew what the captain was even supposed to be feeling in that moment. You can't fix that with more rewrites, you gotta start over from scratch.

Feels like a symptom of a bigger problem honestly. People hype stuff based on a single cool screenshot or a ten second clip. Saw the same thing with that viral restaurant review last month. Everyone talked about the perfect steak photo but the actual meal was dry and overcooked. The director rewriting it three times is a red flag. Usually means they couldn't decide what the scene was supposed to be. The loud music drowning out dialogue is a dead giveaway of bad direction too. Happens all the time in big budget shows. They think volume equals emotion.
