That advice feels like telling someone to start with War and Peace. The big three have hundreds of episodes each. What single cour show would you actually hand a new person first?

Honestly that "start with War and Peace" thing is everywhere now.

Started War and Peace once. Made it to page 12 before I accidentally used it as a coaster for my coffee mug and the cover got all warped. That's basically how I'd approach anime too. I'd probably hand someone "Spy x Family" or "Campfire Cooking" - something light where nobody dies tragically in the first episode. Gotta ease people into this hobby, not scare them off with 600 episodes of plot to catch up on.
