Showerthought: My local con's spoiler policy made me rethink how I talk about new shows

I was at Anime Boston last year, just chilling in the main hall line. This guy in front of me started loudly breaking down the whole plot twist from an episode that had aired that morning. I mean, it was a huge moment, and he just spoiled it for like twenty people around us. The staff didn't do anything, but the looks on people's faces said it all. Now I always wait a full day and ask 'how far are you?' before saying anything. Anyone else had to change their chat habits because of something like that?

Ugh, that's the worst. I read an article once about "spoiler etiquette" that said the golden rule is to follow the pace of the slowest watcher in your friend group. It basically said never assume someone is caught up, even if something aired a week ago. Made me realize I used to be kinda guilty of that too.

Yeah, I saw a thing that said spoilers don't expire.
