TIL some anime studios only pay voice actors $15,000 per episode

I was reading an industry blog post last month about the business side of anime. It broke down how much money actually goes to the voice actors on a big show like Demon Slayer. I figured they made decent bank since those shows make millions. But the article said the top tier actors get around $15,000 per episode before taxes. Newer actors get way less, like $1,500 or even lower. That really surprised me because the dubbing industry in the US pays way higher for similar work. Found it on a site called Anime News Network. Has anyone else looked into how uneven the pay is between the Japanese and English voice acting scenes?

$15k per episode is still way more than what most people make in a year.

$15k an episode is crazy money for talking into a mic. Perspective is everything I guess.

Wait, is that $15k per episode actually per person or total for everyone involved? @hannaht29 not trying to pick a fight here but I think we gotta separate the money from the meaning a bit. Like yeah it's insane money for sitting in a room talking, but these creators built audiences over years and years of free work before any sponsor paid them a dime. Nobody gives you $15k an episode just for showing up day one, you know? Plus a lot of that cash gets eaten by taxes, managers, editors, probably travel if they record in person. The headline number always sounds bigger than what actually hits their bank account. Still wild though, not gonna pretend it doesn't make me think about my own life choices.
