Unpopular opinion: praising every anime just because it's popular is killing real discussion

I used to hop into threads and defend whatever was trending, even if I thought it was mid, because I didn't want to seem like a hater. Last week I finally said I couldn't finish a hit show from 2024 and got downvoted to hell, but the replies that did engage actually made me think deeper about pacing. Why do we treat liking something as a personality test instead of just talking about what works and what doesn't?
