Was watching Attack on Titan at 2 AM and the sub/dub argument almost ruined the whole episode

I was in a Discord watch party for the new episode of Attack on Titan on Crunchyroll last Friday. About 10 minutes in, two people started going back and forth about whether the subtitles or the dub was better. They kept typing over the action scenes and I couldn't focus on what was happening on screen. I had to mute both of them and ask the mod to step in before the whole vibe got killed. Has anyone else had a viewing session get derailed like that?

Dude that's rough. I've been there with a different anime actually, someone kept pausing and unpausing to argue about filler episodes during a One Piece marathon. Totally kills the immersion. Muting them was smart though, at least you got to salvage the rest of the ep. Mods should really have a "no arguments during first watch" rule or something. Hate when people turn a chill watch party into a debate club lol.

Actually I read a study once that said pausing a show more than three times per hour drops viewer engagement by like 40%. Can't remember where I saw it but it makes sense, you totally lose the flow. For a first time watcher especially, every pause is like a spoiler because you have time to guess what happens next. One Piece is already long enough without turning it into a classroom debate about filler too.
