Everyone says you need to replace the whole control board on those Samsung washers, but I fixed one with a $4 capacitor from RadioShack.

Man, why do they always make it sound so hard? I did the same thing with my old dryer, just a cheap part and it ran for three more years. @stellap49 is right though, sometimes that quick fix is hiding something way worse.

Remember my neighbor's dryer that kept tripping the breaker? He swapped a blown fuse for a couple bucks and it's been fine for years now.

Wasn't there a big recall on some dryer models for that exact problem? I read a news article a while back about a specific brand where the heating element would short out and blow the fuse over and over. People kept replacing the thermal fuse like your neighbor did, but it was actually a fire risk waiting to happen. The fix needed a whole new part from the manufacturer. Makes you wonder how many old dryers out there are just ticking along with a band-aid fix on a real safety issue.
