Finally changed my mind about using torque wrenches on appliance compressors

I've been doing appliance repair for about 8 years now and always just tightened compressor bolts by feel. Thought torque wrenches were overkill for home fridges. Then last month I had a customer's compressor fail again after 6 months and I found a bulletin from Copeland that said over-tightening by just 5 ft-lbs can warp the mounting plate and cause oil leaks. Took me 20 minutes of digging on their site to find the exact spec sheet. Now I carry a small inch-pound torque wrench in my van for every compressor swap. Anyone else ever had a warranty claim denied because of improper torque specs?

So did Copeland actually give you pushback on the warranty, or were you just trying to be proactive about avoiding it? I'm curious if those specs are the same across different compressor brands or if you gotta look each one up individually.
