Got talked into buying a $200 thermal camera for my phone

I was on a call for a fridge that wouldn't cool, and the usual checks came up empty. A guy at the supply house kept saying this little camera add-on would save me time finding bad door seals or blocked coils. So I bit the bullet and got one. It actually showed a cold spot on the evaporator coil that I totally missed, which pointed right to a restriction. Paid for itself on maybe three jobs. Anyone else using these for quick diagnostics, or is it just another gadget?

Funny you mention that. My buddy in HVAC showed me his thermal camera last year, and we spent a good twenty minutes just pointing it at his house walls, finding all the spots with bad insulation (which was most of them, honestly). He said it was great for showing customers exactly where their heat was going.
