Had a fridge compressor fail on me in Bakersfield last Tuesday and luckily caught it before it burned out
Was doing a routine check on a 5-year-old Whirlpool and heard the compressor humming weird. Pulled the start relay and found it was cracked. Swapped it out for a universal one I had in the truck. Customer said it was making ice fine but I knew better. Anybody else ever catch a failing compressor early like that or just me?

Man, I wish I had that kind of luck lol. Last time I heard a weird hum I just thought it was me forgetting to close a drawer or something. Ended up with a full blown compressor meltdown and a very unhappy customer.

That hum is always an electrical issue, not a mechanical one. Check your capacitors and contactors first if you hear it again before anything else moves. A little testing with a multimeter saves a whole lot of cleanup and angry people later.
