Hit 1,000 dryer vent cleanings last month and I'm starting to question the whole 'do it every year' rule

I've been doing these for 8 years now and most people's vents are fine for way longer than 12 months. The worst clog I ever saw was in a house that hadn't been cleaned in 4 years. Has anyone else noticed the yearly thing is mostly just a money grab from companies?

My friend's mom had her vents cleaned last year after probably 5 years and the guy said they were barely dirty. She felt silly paying for it.

Did the guy actually pull the camera through the whole system, or just pop the cover off and peek inside? Five years without cleaning can definitely hide dust and mold deep in the ductwork.
