Just realized I've been over-tightening drum belts for years

I used to crank those dryer drum belts down as tight as I could get them, thinking loose meant slipping and a callback. Last month I worked on a Samsung in Beaverton where the belt was barely snug from the factory after 5 years of use. Now I just get them tight enough so they don't flap at the slack point. Has anyone else found that too much tension wears out the bearings faster?

Learned the same lesson the hard way after killing a set of bearings in under two years lol

Nah I'm gonna push back a little - if you're buying quality bearings and keeping them greased they should go way longer than two years. I've got cheap China bearings on my boat trailer that are going on five years now with zero issues.
