Old timer told me to always check the door switch first on a Whirlpool washer
My first boss, Frank, drilled that into my head back in 2012. He said 80% of the 'won't start' calls for that model were just a bad switch. I argued with him once on a job, spent an hour checking the motor and timer first. Sure enough, it was the $15 door switch. Anyone else have a go-to piece of advice that saved them time?

Frank was right about those switches. The real time saver is learning which parts fail together. On those washers, a worn door latch will chew up the switch plunger. If you don't replace both, you'll be back in six months for the same call. It turns a quick fix into a lasting one.

Wait, the door latch chews up the switch plunger? That's wild. I never would have guessed those two parts were even touching each other. Makes total sense why you'd have to do both now.

Check the wiring harness where it bends at the door hinge. Seen a bunch where the wires inside fray from the door opening and closing, so even a new switch acts up. You gotta replace that whole harness section or the problem comes right back.
