Old timer told me to skip the leak detector on a fridge line

Met a retired guy at a parts counter who said he never used electronic leak detectors, just soap bubbles and patience. I tried his method on a tricky freezer line and found the pinhole in 10 minutes flat after fighting with my detector for an hour. Anyone else ditch the fancy tools for simple stuff and get better results?

There's something to be said for old school methods, they cut through all the noise. It's kinda like how sometimes I'll use a cheap analog multimeter instead of my digital one because it just feels more honest. Maybe it's just me, but the simple stuff forces you to slow down and pay attention, which is half the battle in any repair. You end up learning the little quirks of a system instead of just letting a machine tell you what's wrong.

Well hold on, you use an analog multimeter? That's something I haven't seen in years. My son brought one home from a flea market and I told him it was just for decoration now. You really trust those needles and numbers over a clear digital readout? Guess that's a way to really feel the circuit, like you said. It does make me wonder what else I've been missing by just trusting the easy way out.
