Refrigerator compressor swap on a 10 year old LG
Had to decide between a $350 compressor swap or a $1200 new fridge, went with the swap, and it's been running strong for 6 months now, has anyone else taken a chance on an old fridge repair?

Read an article saying those LG compressors are notorious for failing.

No kidding about those LG compressors being notorious. I went through the same headache with my 10 year old LG last year. The fridge was still keeping food cold but the compressor was making that awful clicking noise. I did the swap myself with a used compressor from a parts place and it cost me around $200 total. Six months in and honestly I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. But so far so good. I figure even if it dies next week I got my money's worth compared to buying new. Your mileage may vary but I think it was worth the gamble.
