Remember having to call the parts house and hope they had the right schematic?
Back in the day, I'd spend half a morning driving to the supplier in Tacoma just to look up a part number for a 90s Maytag washer. Now, I pull out my phone in the customer's laundry room and have the full diagram in 30 seconds. The change really hit me around 2015 when the last local shop closed. It's faster, but I kinda miss the old guys behind the counter who knew every model by heart. Anyone else still keep a binder of the really old paper manuals just in case?

My uncle ran a small repair shop until 2012. He told me his parts supplier finally went digital and sent him a login for their online portal. He printed out the welcome letter and just left it on the desk for a month because he hated the idea.

Used to hate the online portals too, but getting parts at midnight changed my mind.

My old binder from 2004 has schematics for ten different brands stuffed in there, held together with duct tape and coffee stains. The other day I needed a wiring diagram for a 1985 Kenmore dryer and found it in there, yellow and crinkly but still readable. That's the kind of stuff you just can't pull up online no matter how good your WiFi is.
