Saw a dryer vented with a plastic grocery bag at a house in Spokane

The homeowner said it was 'fine for now' because it was only a little damp... has anyone else seen a temporary fix that became permanent?

Only a little damp" is a wild thing to say about a fire hazard. That moisture builds up fast and the plastic can melt or catch. How is that ever fine?

Actually had a buddy who did this exact thing with a shopping bag. @ericschmidt is right, it started out as a "temporary fix" and three months later the bag was all melted and crusty. Landlord had to replace half the ductwork.
