Showerthought: I always thought those little plastic drain pump filters on front loaders were just a gimmick until I pulled a sock and 83 cents in change out of one yesterday.
Found a service bulletin from the manufacturer that said ignoring that filter causes 40% of their 'no drain' calls, which blew my mind and made me start checking them on every job now, so what's the most surprising 'small part, big problem' fix you've found?

Totally agree. Saw the same thing fixing my own washer. The tiny rubber inlet valve screens are another one. They get clogged with sediment from your house pipes and the machine fills painfully slow. Took me forever to figure that out, thought the whole unit was broken. Cleaning those little screens fixed it completely.

Those screens are the worst. Mine were packed with what looked like orange sand from old pipes. The hot water side was completely blocked. Took the screens out, rinsed them in the sink, and the washer filled like new again.

Wait, aren't those screens usually plastic or metal mesh, not rubber? The little gasket might be rubber, but the filter part itself is a different material. It's such a simple fix once you know to check them, but man, that slow fill makes you think the worst. I've seen them so packed with gunk you can't even see light through them.
