Spent three hours on a Samsung ice maker that just needed a new thermistor
The auger kept jamming and I was convinced it was the motor. Turns out the thermistor was reading wrong, so the unit was trying to make ice when it was already too cold. Anyone else run into weird sensor failures causing simple problems?

Had a buddy chase a weird engine code for a week. Bad coolant temp sensor had the computer dumping in way too much fuel.

That's a classic one. Did his scan tool show the live data from the sensor, or did he just go by the code? Sometimes the sensor fails in a way that sends a believable but wrong temp reading, so the code doesn't set right away. Watching the live data stream is the only way to catch that.

That thing about "believable but wrong temp reading" is exactly what got me. I used to always swap parts first and never bother with live data, but watching the sensor stream is the only way I won't chase ghosts now.
