Switched my stance on using a multimeter for basic dryer checks

For years I thought pulling out a multimeter for a dryer that wouldn't heat was overkill. I always just checked the thermal fuse by eye and ordered a new one. Then I had a job last Tuesday where the fuse looked fine but was actually blown internally. The homeowner paid for a part I didn't need because I guessed wrong. Now I test continuity on everything before I recommend a fix. Has anyone else found a cheap meter that holds up to shop abuse?

Ordered a part I didn't need" - yeah, I once bought TWO heating elements before realizing my meter was dead.

Hearing "bought two heating elements before realizing my meter was dead" made me laugh but honestly that's on you for not testing the tool first. You gotta verify your meter is good before you trust what it's telling you, or you're just guessing with extra steps.
