That one week where every fridge I touched had a bad compressor
Last week in my shop, I had three different fridges come in, all from different brands, and every single one had a compressor failure. The first was a 5 year old Whirlpool, then a 7 year old GE, and finally a 3 year old Samsung. It was just weird luck, and each one meant telling the owner it wasn't worth fixing. Has a week like that ever hit anyone else, where you just get the same exact major failure over and over?

Actually, compressors are usually worth fixing if the fridge is decent... it's the sealed system leaks that are the real money pit. A new compressor itself isn't that crazy, but the labor to braze it in and recharge the system adds up fast. When you find a leak elsewhere in all those copper lines, that's when the repair bill easily passes the price of a new fridge.

Honestly I used to think compressor jobs were always worth it too. But after seeing how much labor and extra parts they actually need, I get why shops just say to replace the whole unit now.

Remember when every car I saw for a month had a flat tire on the driver's side front wheel.
