DAE still use the two-rope trick on leaning trees after all these years?

Back in 2011 I had a leaner over a shed in Dayton that no notch would hold, so I ran a second line to a stump as a back lean and it sat down soft as anything. Now every new guy wants a fancy rigging setup, but does anyone else still keep that old trick in their pocket?
