Dropped $300 on a proper pole pruner and it saved my shoulder after one week

I cheaped out on a $60 one from the hardware store and it bound up on a 3-inch limb, nearly yanked me off the ladder. Has anyone else bit the bullet on a higher-end pole saw and actually felt the difference in torque?

Oh man, I used to be the queen of "just get the cheap one, it'll work fine." But then I borrowed a neighbor's top-of-the-line pole saw last fall and seriously, it was like night and day. It cut through everything smooth as butter, no binding, no fighting it. I had to eat my words when I finally bought my own nicer model last month. You really do feel the difference in torque and the way the blade stays sharp longer.

Hate to disagree, but I've been using a $40 pole saw from the hardware store for three years and it still gets the job done. Yeah, it binds up a little on thick branches and I gotta sharpen the blade every other use, but for what I need it for it works fine. Most people buying the expensive ones are just paying for a brand name and a little extra smoothness that doesn't matter for basic yard work. Save your money and spend it on something that actually makes a difference.
