I thought I could save money sharpening my own chainsaw blades...

Bought a cheap sharpening kit online for about $40, thinking I'd get the hang of it. Messed up the angles on two chains before I even got to the third one... ended up taking all three to the shop anyway. The guy there said I'd basically turned them into scrap metal, so that was $120 in chains plus the kit money down the drain. Anyone know a good beginner video or should I just keep paying for pro sharpening?

Honestly that shop guy sounds like he's overstating things to keep your business. Chains aren't that fragile. A messed up angle just means it cuts weird, not that it's trash. You probably just needed a better guide or to go slower. Watch a couple videos, grab a practice chain, and try again. It's a skill like anything else.

Wait, you're giving chain sharpening advice after what happened with your sink? @jaken23's story is burned into my brain, man. A messed up angle on a chain isn't just a weird cut, it can make the saw kick back like crazy. That's how people get hurt. The shop guy isn't lying to keep your business, he's trying to stop you from turning a chainsaw into a weapon. Some things are worth paying a pro to do right.

Reminds me of when @troyramirez tried to fix his own sink and flooded the kitchen.
