Overheard a foreman in Tacoma say he marks his climbing line with a sharpie every 50 feet for quick visual checks mid-ascent.

Tried it on a 150-foot pine removal and it saved me from having to stop and physically measure my rope length three separate times, so has anyone else got a simple marking trick for gear?

Mark your gear with a sharpie and suddenly you're a genius, huh? I've been using a silver paint pen on my carabiners for years to spot my own gear in a pile. You ever try to find your stuff when three other crews are on the same site?

Ever have someone swipe your marked gear anyway?

Wait, three other crews on the same site? That sounds like pure chaos. I'd be a nervous wreck trying to keep track of my stuff in that mess. @robinson.quinn's paint pen idea is smart for that, because a silver mark would actually stand out in a big gear pile.
