Shoutout to the crew that helped me with a massive willow removal in Springfield
We had a 60-foot weeping willow come down across a driveway after a storm last Tuesday. I usually try to save big trees, but this one was split right to the base. My buddy from another company brought over his new 36-inch bar Stihl saw, and we had the whole thing bucked and cleared in under four hours with a team of five. I used to think willows were too messy to be worth the hassle on jobs like that. Anyone have a go-to method for cleaning up all those tiny twigs and leaves afterwards?

My method is a leaf blower and a strong sense of regret.

That 36-inch bar must've been fun on a willow though, even if it is soft. I've always wondered if people bother with a leaf rake on the tiny debris or just go straight for the mower and hope for the best. How bad did the twigs gum up your blades after grinding through all that?

That Stihl with the 36-inch bar is a beast for a willow. I've found they're mostly soft wood, so a 28-inch bar usually powers through the trunk just fine, even on a 60-footer. It saves your back from hauling around the extra weight all day. The real time sink is always those little branches. Do you rake first or just try to mow over the mess with a commercial deck?
