Talked to a old timer at the lumber yard who made me rethink oak pruning cuts
I was grabbing some supplies near Kalamazoo last week and this retired arborist saw me loading up and started chatting. He said most of my 3-inch cuts were leaving stubs that would rot back into the branch collar, not heal right. Anyone else ever get called out by a stranger and have it stick with you like that?

Man that sticks with you. Especially when it comes from someone who's clearly been doing it forever.

Nah, I kinda feel like raw talent matters way more than how long someone's been grinding lol.

Naw, I gotta push back a little on that. Raw talent gets you started for sure, but I've seen too many naturally gifted people burn out or coast while the grinders just keep getting better over time. You ever seen someone with average skill outwork everyone and end up on top?
