Used to climb with a cheap rope and a prayer, now I run a 150 foot Yale Blaze and it's a different job
Five years back I was spurring up Doug firs outside Eugene with whatever hardware store line was on sale, and my hands would cramp up by noon because that rope was stiff as a cable. Now I run a 150 foot Yale Blaze with a zigzag and I can do three 60 foot removals in a day without feeling like I got hit by a truck. The big change was watching a guy in Corvallis one hand a rope up to a cut with almost no drag, and I asked him what he was using and he just said 'nothing special, just not the wrong rope.' I still see guys around here climbing on 12 strand junk and I want to hand them my line and watch their face. Anyone else make the switch and notice how much less you fight the rope on limb walks?
Reminds me of when I switched from an old beat up bike to a decent one for my deliveries, night and day difference in how my legs felt by the end of the day. Some folks just don't know what they're missing till they try something that actually works with them instead of against them.
