Field notebooks vs. tablets on digs
I used to sketch every trench layer in a waterproof field notebook, but now I just snap photos on my phone and log details in a free app. Has anyone else gone fully digital, or do you still prefer paper for the dirt and mud?

Yeah I was totally on the paper team for years, rain or shine. But last spring I dropped my notebook in a muddy trench and lost half my sketches when the pages stuck together. @the_ruby you make a fair point about batteries though, I keep a little solar charger in my bag now and it's been a lifesaver. I still carry a small pocket pad for quick notes but the photo logging is way faster for recording soil changes and artifact positions. Honestly the app I use backs up to the cloud too which saved me when I left my phone on a tailgate and drove off.
