Found a trick to spot fake Roman coins at a flea market in Rome last month
I was getting taken for a ride until I learned to check the edge thickness with a simple caliper tool, has anyone else tried this method?

My buddy Mike tried this exact thing at a flea market in Florence last summer. He bought a digital caliper for like 15 bucks on Amazon before his trip, first coin he checked had this weirdly uniform edge that was too thin compared to a real denarius he had as a reference. Turned out to be a modern cast fake, the seller got all defensive and refunded him.

Always check the rim thickness first, that tells you everything.
