Got excited over a pottery sherd at the dig site near Bath last week

I was brushing dirt off what I thought was just another rock, and turns out it was a rim piece from a Roman bowl dating to the 2nd century. Has anyone else had that moment where a random piece of broken stuff suddenly becomes the coolest thing you've held all week?

Oh, is that the feeling when you finally understand why your mom kept all those chipped plates in the back of the cabinet? I once found a piece of what I thought was a cool rock in my backyard and got so pumped, only to realize it was actually a chunk of old driveway. You must have been doing a little happy dance out there in the dirt, I would have. Your find has to be way cooler than my "rock," which was basically just broken asphalt. So yeah, I totally get that buzz, even if my version was way more pathetic.

Right, that's exactly the thing. It's like how you suddenly notice every single plane in the sky after you book a trip, or how you start seeing the same weird car model everywhere once a friend buys one. Once that little dopamine hit from the find kicks in, your brain just locks onto the category and won't let go, even if the category is "broken asphalt.
