Hit 500 hours in my site's excavation log and I'm not sure what to do with it
I keep a notebook for every dig I work on, just a cheap spiral one, and last Friday I finally crossed 500 hours logged at a rock shelter site outside Boise. Sounds like a lot until you realize it's spread over 14 months of weekend trips. The weird part is the notebook itself. My first 200 hours are barely readable, messy layers, badly drawn section walls, no scale on half my sketches. The last 100 hours look like a completely different person wrote them. I'm wondering now if I should type it all up before the paper pages fall apart, or keep it as is since the messy stuff might actually be useful later. Has anyone else gone back through an old field journal and found the early notes were better than the clean ones?
