Met an archaeologist at a bar who said most dig sites are actually discovered by accident
He told me his biggest find was a Bronze Age settlement he stumbled on while looking for a lost dog in a field near Salisbury, and I still think about how random that sounds versus the Indiana Jones stuff people expect.
