My dig supervisor swore by trowel size, I think she was wrong
At a field school in Chaco Canyon last summer, our supervisor insisted a 4 inch trowel was the only way to expose fragile pottery. I used an 8 inch one for two weeks and found way more intact sherds without breakage. She literally told me 'bigger blade means bigger mistakes,' but my finds log proved otherwise. Did anyone else get told a hard rule that turned out to be bunk, or is my supervisor actually onto something?

Bigger trowel worked better for me too on my last dig.
