Tried a ground-penetrating radar on my grandpa's old farm, found a 1930s septic tank instead of treasure
My grandpa always swore there was a buried cache of silver dollars somewhere near the old oak tree on his place outside Topeka. So last month I rented a GPR unit for $180 for the day and walked the whole yard in a grid. The machine beeped like crazy right where he used to burn trash, so I dug down about 2 feet. Turns out it was a rusted-out septic tank from the 1930s, full of old bottles and a cracked enamel basin. The silver dollars are still missing, but I did find a cool milk glass bottle with the local dairy's name on it. I learned that GPR shows you where things are, but it won't tell you if it's junk or a jackpot. Has anyone else dug up something way less exciting than they hoped? What was your most disappointing radar find?
