Appreciation post: that little 15 dollar hygrometer saved my sourdough starter
I kept getting flat loaves for months until I bought a cheap hygrometer for my proofing box. Turns out my kitchen was way too dry at 35% humidity. Has anyone else found a simple tool that fixed a baking problem?

Huh, that's wild how much difference humidity can make. So did you notice the starter itself acting differently before you got the hygrometer, like slower bubbles or a wetter texture, or was it just the final bread that tipped you off?

@cole_robinson nah it was the starter itself that gave it away first, the bubbles were way smaller than usual and the top looked kinda wet and loose instead of domed up. Once I checked the hygrometer it showed 70% humidity in my kitchen, dropped it down to around 50% and the starter bounced back to its normal bubbly self within a couple days.
