Bought a cheap air fryer off Facebook Marketplace. First batch of wings went up in smoke.

I picked up a no-name brand air fryer for $20 from some guy in Renton. Worked fine for the first two uses, then the heating element started sparking on the third batch. I lost $20 on the fryer and another $12 on the ruined chicken wings. Anyone else get burned by a random kitchen gadget from a stranger?

Honestly, "first batch of wings went up in smoke" is pretty much the perfect summary of buying cheap kitchen gear from strangers. I grabbed a deep fryer off some guy once and the thermostat was completely shot. It cooked everything on nuclear mode until the oil was smoking. You pay for what you get with that Marketplace stuff, man. At least you only lost $32 total, could have been a lot worse.
