I finally fixed my sprinkler leak and it only took me 5 trips to the hardware store
Two Saturdays ago I noticed a soggy patch in my front yard near the sidewalk, so I figured it was a quick fix. I dug down about a foot looking for the leak, replaced a cracked elbow, and turned the water back on only to watch it bubble up in a totally different spot. Turned out the real problem was a split in the mainline under the driveway, which meant renting a trencher and cutting through 12 feet of grass. All in it took me 9 hours spread over two weekends when I thought it would be a 30 minute job, and my yard still looks like a gopher convention. Is it normal to just pay someone for this next time or am I giving up too easy?
Man, five trips to the hardware store is just the universe's way of making sure you know every employee by name. The real kicker is that mainline under the driveway, because of course the actual problem was never where the water showed up. Paying someone next time isn't giving up, it's just math, since your weekends are worth more than what a pro would charge to deal with that mess.
