I finally realized I was asking questions wrong on this forum

Honestly, I used to just post 'what's the best way to do X?' and get vague answers. Then I saw a reply to someone else that said 'you need to say you're in a 700 sq ft apartment with a cat and a $50 budget' and it clicked. How do you make sure you give enough detail when you ask something here?

Actually, too much detail can bury the main question. The real trick is to state the core problem clearly first, then add the important specifics. People will ask for more if they need it.

My last post asked for cheap floor ideas and I got suggestions for marble tile and heated hardwood. I live above a bowling alley. The real trick is to lead with the bowling alley, then mention the budget. You have to preemptively answer the questions you know are coming.

Wait, you live above a bowling alley? Like, you can hear the pins crashing through your floor at 2 AM?
