Is a 100 dollar meal better than a 10 dollar meal if you eat alone?

Last month I sat at a diner in Pittsburgh and watched a guy drop 120 bucks on a tasting menu by himself while I had a 9 dollar burger, and honestly, both of us looked equally happy, so what are we actually paying for, the food or the story, has anyone else felt that split?
