Just realized my bank's ATM used to give out $20s and now it only does $50s
Stopped by the branch on 5th Street last Tuesday and the machine wouldn't even let me pick a smaller amount, which never happened back in 2019 when I opened the account, so I'm wondering if any of you have noticed your banks pushing bigger bills too or if it's just mine.
The part about the machine not even letting you pick a smaller amount is what gets me, because that's not a bug, that's a choice somebody made on purpose. Banks love to act like this is just how ATMs work now, but come on, they know exactly what they're doing when they load the thing with fifties only. It's like going to a vending machine and finding out everything costs five bucks, so now you're forced to break a big bill just to buy one soda. My bank did the same thing last year and I didn't notice until I tried to pull out forty bucks for a haircut and got told the minimum was fifty. The real kicker is they still show you a balance that ends in weird numbers, so you end up walking around with a fat stack of fifties you can't spend anywhere. Feels less like convenience and more like they're hoping you just leave the change sitting in your account.
