My dad swore I'd regret going to that mechanic in Cleveland, turns out he was right
So my dad told me to avoid Tony's Auto Repair on West 25th because he got ripped off there like 10 years ago. But I figured, new management, different story, plus they were $80 cheaper than the dealership for a timing belt replacement on my 2012 Civic. Three weeks later the belt snapped on I-77 and now I'm out $1,200 for a new engine. Who else has ignored family advice on mechanics and paid the price?

Man, that stinks. But here's something nobody's brought up - your dad probably wasn't just mad about getting ripped off a decade ago. He was warning you about the owner's whole way of doing business. Once a guy starts cutting corners or hiring bad help, that's not something that just disappears with new management signs out front. Those habits run deep in a shop. Next time your dad warns you about a place, maybe ask him specifically what went wrong and why he thinks it's still a bad bet now. Saves you the $1,200 tuition payment.

New management usually means the same guys working there just swapped out the sign out front, not the actual work ethic behind the counter.
