My old pressure cooker just gave up the ghost last night making a batch of chili.

I mean, I've had that thing for like 8 years, so I guess it was time. The gasket just blew out with a big hiss and steam went everywhere. I had to turn everything off and move the whole pot to the sink. Ended up finishing the chili in a regular pot on the stove, but it wasn't the same. Has anyone else had a kitchen appliance fail mid-cook? What did you do to save the meal?

My chili has always had a flair for the dramatic. It probably saw a pot of soup getting more attention. Guess I need to invest in a lid with better security.
